Treasure Hunt

Hunt the clues in a variety of shops in Moffat

Evidence Hunt Guidance.

The hunt is for clues around Moffat, but you do not have to follow them in order. They will all be found in the High Street, down past the church to the park, or along Well Street and Old Well Road. If you find yourself beyond those points – you won’t be finding any clues!

Prizes are £25 book tokens – one prize for the whole thing (adults included) and one for the children’s clues, which are coloured green. The answers are what the quiz setter has decided, and there are no appeals! Please put your name and contact number on the answer sheet, so we can let you know if you have won – if there is a tie, winner will be decided by random method.

Some clues are easy; some are more difficult – don’t expect to get them all. Enjoy a wander round Moffat, but it is primarily for fun, so 45-60 minutes should be enough.

Now put on your thinking caps and help Holmes in his quest…..

Answers will be shown on the Moffat Town Hall website on Monday 5th October

Happy sleuthing!

Holmes leaned forward and tapped his pipe on the heel of his shoe, sending a cloud of ash over the hearth rug. Mrs Hudson would not be pleased.

“What do make of it, Watson?”

“Well, it seems clear that Moriarty is responsible – why does Lestrade not simply arrest him?”

Holmes smiled. “Such a simple world you live in Watson! The plans which we believe Moriarty to have would be a great prize for our national enemies. We have no proof that the Professor has them, and we certainly don’t know where he has hidden them. Arrest him now, and we may never find them – until they are in the hands of the enemy! No, we must be a little more subtle than that….”

“But where is Moriarty now? We know he caught the sleeper to Scotland, but he could be anywhere!”

Holmes pursed his lips. “I do not let my prey escape me that easily Watson. When he boarded that train his luggage was carried by one of my Baker Street Irregulars – who then secreted himself in the baggage compartment and followed Moriarty the next day. Moriarty headed for a small town near the border – Moffat, I believe it is called.”

I leapt to my feet. “Good grief Holmes, we must be on our way at once! Why do we sit here, when the devil is in Moffat!”

Again, Holmes smiled and filled his pipe with the noxious tobacco he always preferred. “Calm yourself Watson! He moved about Moffat and was followed each step of the way.” He drew an envelope from his pocket and took out a letter. “Every place he went, every clue he left is here before me. Come, let us look at it now – after all, you know my methods, see what you make of it….”
